INTO THE DEEP END I have never been one to enjoy a wading pool. Even as a small child, I couldn't wait to jump into the deep end of the pool. I loved being able to not just float on the surface, but dive deep, deeper still, into the watery depths. Funny, it is the way I like to live life as well.

About Me

My Photo
Karen Oliveto
I was born on Good Friday and raised in Babylon (a NY town on Long Island). Perhaps that says it all! I am a United Methodist clergywoman, pastor at Glide Memorial United Methodist Church (if you've seen the movie, "Pursuit of Happyness", then you've seen a bit of Glide), and an adjunct professor of United Methodist Studies at Pacific School of Religion. I hold a PhD in Religion and Society from Drew University. I love studying the intersection of church and culture. I have a severe case of wanderlust, which I believe I inherited from my Uncle Howie. I am grateful that my ministry affords me opportunities to travel, through my work with the Reconciling Ministries Network as well as through mission trips. I love meeting new people, learning from new cultural contexts, and working with communities to change the world.
